Machinery Regulation

Regulation (EU) 2023/1230

The Machinery Regulation sets the health and safety requirements machinery must meet to be placed on the EU market. It replaces the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and adds provisions for digital, connected and AI-enabled machinery.

What it covers

Machinery with at least one moving part driven by a non-human power source.

How it applies to your product

The new Machinery Regulation keeps the familiar essential health and safety requirements but adds explicit provisions for digital, connected and AI-enabled machinery and for the cybersecurity of safety functions. It applies from 20 January 2027, replacing the Machinery Directive; machinery placed on the market before then follows the old Directive.

Key dates

Applies from 20 January 2027, replacing the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
